Extreme Cold Weather areas of pakistan, Gilgit Baltistan.

Climate change and effects of cold weather in Gilgit Baltistan

Because of its geographical position, climate change is a big concern in Pakistan. In Pakistan, we have different types of weather in different areas. The ranges in the north-high mountains are quite icy in winter, but very pleasant from April to September. The enormous Indus valley plains are extremely hot in the summer and extremely frigid in the winter. So, when we talk about Gilgit Baltistan, there are different types of weather in different parts of the GB.

Weather conditions in various places of Gilgit Baltistan

In comparison to other locations, Hunza, ghizer, gojal, skardu, ishkomen, ganche, chilas, etc., the major city, i.e. Gilgit city, has quite regular weather in both winters and summers.
As a result, as the distance from Gilgit city increased, the weather got extremely cold. For example, if the temperature in the major city is 10 degrees Celsius, it will be 5 degrees in Huza and -5 degrees on Khunjerab's top. As a result, the weather changes during the journey. As with ghizer, skardu, astor, and ganche.

Precautions to take before traveling in the Gilgit Baltistan

So few simple precautions should be taken before visiting Gilgit Baltistan, especially in the winter.
  • Drive attentively during the route since you never know where you will encounter snow on the road, which might cause a collision.
  • Make sufficient arrangements for fuel, as there aren't many fuel stations around.
  • Take an additional tyre, toolbox, and more spanners with you in case of an emergency.

  • Take medication and plenty of water with you.
  • After driving for two or three hours, take a thorough break because it is difficult to focus when you are tired.
  • Keep your children away from the vehicle's steering wheel and gears.
  • Keep fruits and snacks on hand.

It's spring season in Gilgit Baltistan Pakistan, and the weather out here is supposed to be warm as its spring season is on its way here, but still, it's quite cold, almost around 0°C.

Due to this cold weather, the glaciers in the mountains didn't melt properly and the local people faced a lake of water for their crops and plants. the greenery of ghizer is still not there which was supposed to be there this month. you can watch a video of the current scenario of cold weather in her GB. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BevhA9_bFcY&t=5s

Ultimately due to this cold weather condition, the locals face difficulty in their routine work and practices. they are also worried about the crops and plants as they fully depend upon the water that they got from the glaciers.

On the other hand, due to this cold weather, there is also a lack of greenery as well, which is the primary source of animals' food in these areas as they don't have enough storage of food for their animals, because usually, the weather got normal (warm) till the end of March and greenery comes out immediately which the local people use as the feed for their animals, so this is also a big worry for the locals of Ghizer GB. But it's not there this year due to climate change which affects almost everything and that is something to worry about, for the locals who have to live their lives in these situations.

Priminster Pakistan Imran khan always tries to educate Pakistani people about climate change issue because he knows how serious this issue is & how could it affect the people of Pakistan as ultimately it's the loss of Pakistan and Pakistan will suffer badly due to climate change if suitable measures not taken by the government and people also have a responsibility to help reduce climate change.

CAUSES OF CLIMATE CHANGE

As per scientists, the major issue which causes climate change is the "greenhouse effect", due to this the atmosphere trap heat from earth towards space. certain gases in the atmosphere block heat from escaping, due to which temperature change occurs which is described as climate change.

there are some gases which are named below which are the main cause of global warming n
  1. water vapors
  2. carbon dioxide (CO2)
  3. methane
  4. nitrous oxide
So as good citizens of Pakistan it's our responsibility to take care of the environment around us and also do the best action to prevent the earth from these environmental issues, especially we should make people aware of the damage of deforestation which is also a big cause of global warming.  we should guide people not to cut plants and greenery as they are our main source of oxygen.

GUD LUCK!
