ISHKOMEN DISTRICT, GHIZER

Ishkomen is a settlement as well as a Tehsil, known as Tehsil-e-ishkomen, that encompasses around 15 to 20 tiny villages. Ishkomen is a sizable community with more than 10,000 homes. and being home to a sizable population.

Tehsil-e-ishkomen ishkomen is renowned for its natural beauty and rich culture. Kurumber Lake is the source of the Kurumbar River, which crosses Tehsil-e-ishkomen. The Tehsil-e-ishkomen area's important component is that it is connected to the Tajikistan border. Due to challenging roads, however, cars cannot cross the Pakistan-Tajikistan border, but people may travel on foot.

It starts just after Hasis valley, the last village of the puniyal district, and the border between puniyal & ishkomen. Famani, Birgal, Chatorkhand, Dayen, Pakora, Chinara, Shines, bahrjungle, Gishgish, ishkomen, Immit, Badswat, and Bilhanz are a few of the villages in Tehsil-e-ishkomen.

View of Birgal valley.

These all are very beautiful and plain villages, you don't have to climb through Mountains or drive through difficult roads, the roads and areas are easy to drive through, and easy to enjoy the beauty of ishkomen valley.

The bad thing about this area is, the condition of the roads are very rough so far, as per local people the roads have to be maintained soon, but so far the condition of the road is very bad, you can't drive your car for more than 40km/h. So it took so long to reach ishkomen from Gilgit city. The road from Gilgit to his village is much better so one can drive at 60 to 80km/h speed but after that, you have to slow down your vehicle.

Location and time to Reach ishkomen

The electric system of this area is much better as compared to other areas of Gilgit Baltistan, usually, electricity is produced by water which is also known as hydropower, in ishkomen valley, so it's enough for the whole Tehsil-e-ishkomen & it also delivered to puniyal valley as well. In winter due to decreased level of water people suffer a little bit but in summer that's not an issue for locals.

There is a small market where you can buy your household items and other groceries, which is known as chatorkhand, which is the capital of Tehsil-e-ishkomen. People from all around the villages come to chatorkhand to fulfill their daily needs and people have small businesses in chatorkhand.

Issues faced by locals.

Like other districts of Gilgit Baltistan, this area is also suffered many times due to Natural disasters. Which include,

Geographically, this area is also surrounded by huge mountains. In winter, these mountains store heavy snow on them. When summer arrives, the snow on the mountain start melting and it causes much damage to the lands and roads of this area.

Guesthouses & Other facilities.

For those tourists who want to stay in a luxury guest house, they can visit Bam-E-Duniya guest house located in Birgal valley, from there, one can easily go to the end of ishkomen valley and come back quite easily in the evening. Besides this, there are other guesthouses available in chatorkhand, that also provide quality services to tourists.

The next important thing one needs to know is the petrol pump which is available in kochdeh, a valley near chatorkhand, so you have to fill your vehicle tank because there will be no other petrol pump till the end of this valley, so it's important to make yourself ready for that.
