A cluster of four small hill stations of Khanaspur, Khairagali, Changlagali and Ghora Dhaka is called Ayubia and was named after President Ayub Khan who belonged to Haripur district of Hazara. The complex is spread over an area of 26 km. The central place of Ghora Dhaka has a chairlift, which gives a panoramic and mesmerizing view of the surroundings.
Ayubia is small town in NWFP, Pakistan. It is located near Murree hills and Galyat and is home to Ayubia National Park.
There is a spot on Murree-Nathiagali Road, near Ayubia Chair Lifts, called "Baander Point". In this area great number of monkeys live in the jungle. They are so friendly that they come on the road and take food items directly from a person's hand. They do not harm by any means. While returning from Nathiagali. Our driver, who was also a guide, stopped the car there. He was carrying some nimko or popcorns. He sat on the roadside and monkeys ate all from his hand. Then I did the same.
Ayubia National Park
Ayubia National Park is a small park situated amongst the majestic Murree hills. This park provides refuge to the elusive leopard and the black bear. The park supports one of the best remaining examples of moist Himalayan temperate forest in Pakistan and is surrounded by seven major villages and three small towns (Nathiagali, Ayubia and Khanspur). The national park consists entirely of reserve forests, which spill out of the park area on the west and south sides This park provides refuge to the elusive leopard and the black bear. Bird watching is excellent here. Some of the bird species pass through the park on migration. The population of the Koklass Pheasant and the rare Kalij Pheasant are the highest known for Pakistan. Only 30 individuals of the Kalij Pheasant are known to exist in the park. The scenery is superb with huge pine forests covering the hills and providing shelter to the larger and smaller mammals.
Himalayan Moist Temperate Forest
The Ayubia National Park is one of the best representative areas Himalayan Moist Temperate Forest, a sub-category of Montane Forests. It provides superb scenery of huge subtropical pine forest covering the hills and providing shelter.
Tourist attractions
In addition to riding trails, hiking places, picnic spots and motels, there is a chairlift in the central place of Ghora Dhaka in Ayubia that takes the tourists to a nearby summit for a view of the forested hills. This Chairlift was the first recreation facility of its kind in Pakistan and is still a major attraction for domestic tourists.
Wildlife
The park harbors many species of birds like golden eagle, vulture, sparrow hawk and hill pigeon etc. And animals such as the haunting asiatic leopard, asiatic black bear, hill fox and flying squirrel.Mammals in the park include Asiatic leopard, Black bear, Yellow throated marten, Kashmir hill fox, Red Flying squirrel, Himalayan palm civet, Masked civet and Rhesus Macaque.
For bird watchers, there is a wide range of species like the Golden eagle, Griffon vulture, Honey buzzard, Peregrine falcon, Kestrel, Indian sparrow hawk, Hill pigeon, Spotted dove and Collared dove.
