Shogran village is situated on a green plateau in northen Pakistan at a height of 2,362 meters above sea level. It is only 10 kms from village Kiwai or 34 kms from Balakot. The road from Islamabad to Kiwai is metalled and measures 212 kms. From Shogran, you can ride a jeep or horse or hike to several picturesque places like Siri, Paye and Makra Peak. Hotels and motels are easily available at affordable costs. The local people are frinedly and helpful.
Shogran is located at 2,400m above Sea Level. It is the most beautiful place in Kaghan Valley and ideal for spending a weekend. You can either trek up to summer pastures at about 2,700m to the Forest Rest House (02 hours walk) or trek down to Kawai on the main Balakot - Kaghan road, through a dense pine forest. The walk up to summer pastures could be more exciting as you could see Malika Parbat (5, 296m), the highest mountain in Kaghan Valley, and whose shadow in the clear white water of Saiful Maluk adds to the beauty of this legendry Lake. Hiking is superlative.
Shogran located in the middle of a pine and fir forest, just below a snow covered mountain offers supremely beautiful views. It is one of the most beautiful plateaus in the whole area and is situated at a distance of 33 km from Balakot via Kawai. Shogran is not on main road, one has to take a jeepable route from Kawai and go up another 3,000 ft within 5 miles. Shogran means the 'forest in the sky'. Shogran is a beautiful place to stay with lush-green fields and woods. Shogran can only be described as a little bit of nowhere, for it consists of grassy slopes and wooden patches.
Shogran is one of the most beautiful plateau in the whole area with an altitude of 7,749 feet (2,362 meters) above sea level. It is 33 km from Balakot via Kawai. Take this steep road from Kawai for Shogran. The distance is 5 miles and climb is 3,000 feet. Mighty Himalayan peaks like Musa Da Musallah 14,498 feet (4,419 m), Malka Parbat 17,156 feet (5,229 m) and Makra 15,030 feet (4,581 m) could be seen from Shogran.
Sri/Paya and Dona Meadows are most popular spots near Shogran. You can either hire a jeep or hike for around two n half hours to get these spots. Sri Paya, the most beautiful spot of Kaghan Valley, is at an altitude of 11,200 feet (3,414 m) above sea level. Its speciality is lush green meadows and beautiful lakes. For Dona Meadows you would have to cross a huge glacier and two lovely waterfalls.
For those who like adventure, Sharan could be good option. There is a track from Shogran to Sharan. Its two hours hike and you would find yourself in lush green lawns covered by thick forest. The view is simply awesome and there is beautiful forest rest house in Sharan where you may stay. Shogran's real asset are the views it offers. The air is impregnated with the scent of flowers and the fine forests around. It is an expensive resort with limited number of hotels and facilities. The best and most expensive hotel of the area is Pine Park with per night rates between Rs. 2,875- 15,000 ( US$ 50-260 appox).
