Those who have an urge to explore the history, museums are a must visit for them. And for all those natural history lovers living in Islamabad, Pakistan Museum for Natural History is an ideal place for you to discover the secrets of nature in an interesting way.   

Located at Garden Avenue, Shakarparian in Islamabad, Pakistan Museum for Natural History has unique display of information on various nature related topics such as plants, animals, rocks and fossils.

You can visit this wonderful museum on all weekdays from 10’O clock in the morning till 5’O clock in the evening except for Friday which is an off day for this place. Students and children under 12 years of age can visit the museum free of cost and adults are required to pay Rs5 as the entry fee.

The reception area of the museum has a Virtual Orientation Gallery, which through an electronic touch system provides information about the museum and the natural resources of Pakistan. The photographs and movies of nature related topics are also on display on this electronic system.

The museum has total five galleries: The Palaeo Gallery, Eco Gallery, Gems Gallery, Tethys Gallery and The Bio Gallery. Each gallery displays a different facet of the natural history.

The Palaeo Gallery displays the fossils in glass cases. Skeletons of giraffes and an elephant are also placed here. In addition to this, beautiful paintings are also hanging on the gallery’s walls depicting the past times when man used to fight with wild animals for his survival.

The focus of Eco gallery is on the ecosystem and the interaction of various living organisms with their surroundings. There are many glass cases placed in the gallery providing information about habitats and lifecycles of birds, fish, insets, etc. An amazing demonstration of food chain is also presented at one corner of the gallery.

Various precious and semi-precious gemstones found in Pakistan are on display in the Gems gallery, while Tethys Gallery is all about ocean life. The focus of the Bio Gallery is on the diversity of plants and animals found in Pakistan.
